July 17 7PM @ Clubhouse ” The Origins of Names, Words, and Phrases–and a few other things” – Dave Ogle
Who was the real Uncle Sam, the real General T”sao, or the original Peeping Tom?  Who was Anna Schicklgruber and what is her great historical significance?  How did Connecticut and Martha’s Vineyard get their names?  What are the origins of words and phrases like “thinking outside the box”, honeymoon, gossip, chairman, “mind your Ps and Qs”, Ivy League, and fake news (hint on this last one: its not who you think)?  How about food names like fetuchini alfredo, eggs benedict, caesar salad, or drink names like martini, daiquiri,and whiskey?     Answers to these and  to the origins many other names. words, phrases, plus a few other tidbits,  like why mens’s  shirts have their buttons on the left while women’s blouses have their buttons on the right, will be revealed on the evening of (insert date).  All are invited to come and enjoy what should be an entertaining and fun evening.

Family bocce Tournament SATURDAY JUNE 29th Noon to 3:00pm
After the overwhelming success of the BP Men’s Club Family Bocce tournament last summer, we are pleased to announce the 2019 event.
WHAT: Double Elimination “first to 5 point” Bocce Tournament
WHERE: Black Point Clubhouse
WHEN: Noon to 3:00pm
WHY: A fun family event to include the next generation of BP bocce players
ENTRY DEADLINE: Friday June 21st @ NOON
ENTRY FEE: $10 per family team entry
ENTRY HOW: Email to Ed Zito (egzito@aol.com). Drop-off entry fee at 57 Nehantic or to John Campion at 32 White Cap.
FORMAT: 1) A team must consist of family members (or family members of friends/neighbors). Recommended age of participants 8 to 88 2) Double elimination (so ALL teams will play at least 2 matches) 3) chairs and/or blankets, umbrellas etc. are recommended for your viewing pleasure.
Light food/snacks and beverages will be available. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team

Men’s Club Updates

The Black Point Men’s Club has updated its activities.  Please visit the Events Calendar or the Men’s Club page under the Member Programs tab.  Also, if you are interested in playing Pickleball, please contact John Campion at john.campion@blackpointmensclub.com.

Yoga Classes Return to Black Point – Sponsored by the Men’s Club

Yoga classes will resume at the Clubhouse on May 18th.  Classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:00 to 8:00 AM.  The cost per lesson will be $3.00.

This year we will have two new yoga teachers.  On Mondays, Molly Murkett Bruno will be our instructor.  Molly teaches at Get Bent in Norwich and Blissworks Yoga & Healing Arts in New London.  On Wednesdays and Fridays, Rachel Hoath will be our instructor.  “Ray” is an experienced, registered yoga teacher or E-RYT.  She has been teaching yoga for over 2 years and 1,000 hours.  Her mother is one of the co-owners of Center for Healing Therapies in Waterford, Connecticut.  Ray created the Center’s yoga department in 2012 and continues to insure it is running smoothly.
