John A. Gordon Obituary
John Asher Gordon, 79, of Manchester the beloved husband of Michaela “Micki” Gordon died Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born August 12, 1946, to Charles L. and Lily M. (Dustin) Gordon in Hartford, CT, he grew up in Manchester and attended Manchester public schools, including Manchester High School, Class of 1964. John attended Hartford Institute of Accounting, graduating in 1966. He served in the United States Army from 1967 until 1969. Stationed in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, Germany operating in the Finance Corps.
John came home to a career in various financial positions. Starting with Mechanics Savings Bank in Hartford, before moving on to Glass Wool Insulation Company. He later joined C&S Distributors of South Windsor in 1985 as Comptroller and Manager Information Specialist. He served there in those roles until 2003, when he was promoted to Director of Human Resources. In 2005 he parted ways and joined Newington Electric Company as Vice-President and Treasurer until he retired in 2007. In retirement, John served as Secretary Treasurer of South Meadow Estates Association.
Over the years John has had many hobbies including photography, hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, and card games such as cribbage and bridge. John was a connoisseur of classic horror and sci-fi films. However, his favorite past times were cooking gourmet meals and his appreciation of fine wines. John relished taking old family recipes, “modernizing them somewhat”, and making them his own. He also had a passion for creating his own new dishes and entertaining friends and family with them.
For well over 30 years, he would get together with one of his best friends, Dave Lawson, and “kill a day watching movies, eating fattening food and imbibing adult beverages.”
In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years and best friend, Michaela “Micki” (Collins) Gordon, their two sons and their spouses, Brian (Erika) and Matthew (Angel), and five granddaughters, Lindsey, Sarah, Madeline, Katherine, and Emily. He leaves his brother Gregory (Rosemary) and was predeceased by his brother Ronald. He leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
John’s parting words of advice were, “Give up tobacco in all of its forms. That crap will kill you, like it did me.”
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to John’s medical team, including Dr. Friedman, Dr. McArdle, Dr. Dahhan, and Dr. Pazooki. Also, to Jill from the Hartford Healthcare Visiting Nurses and to Erin Duffy and her staff at the Manchester ICU unit.
