Waterford Data Center 4/25/25 Update

April 25, 2025

Dear Black Point Members,

For the past few months, news on the proposed Waterford Data Center has been quiet.  However, a recent article in The Day (Attached – 4/16/25) appears that the project is gaining momentum again.

Waterford Data Center Article

We have reached out to Sen. Martha Marx and Rep. Nick Menapace for an update on both the Senate Bill (S.B. 892 – AN ACT REQUIRING AN EVALUATION OF THE IMPACT OF LARGE DATA CENTERS ON THE ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM and House Bill 5108 – AN ACT CONCERNING THE REGULATION OF INDUSTRIAL LOW-FREQUENCY NOISE POLLUTION.  Both bills were introduced by Sen. Marx along with Reps. Menapace and Gauthier.  Sen. Marx stated the Senate Bill is considered dead, and the House Bill appears to be losing ground.

In addition, Holly Cheeseman was contacted and was asked what she recommends what we should be doing at this time, and she indicated that we should write, re-write, and write again to the Siting Council expressing our concerns about the proposed Data Center.

Not to sound redundant, but with these two bills possibly not making it to the floor, I am encouraging everyone to take 10 minutes and write letters to the Siting Council and continue to do so.  This project must be stopped!
