The Black Point Men’s Club is finishing its second successful season.
This year the Men’s Club held numerous social and educational events and
also raised funds for various community organizations.
The Club’s season started early this year with a “Summer Kick-Off” - a
social gathering at the BP Clubhouse on the first day of summer. A very
successful Wine Tasting followed. Samplings of red and white wines were
supplied by Joe and Lynn Kiah of Village Wines of Niantic.
For a second year the Men’s Club sponsored a co-ed Bocce League. The
Men’s Club and the BP Women’s Club donated money for two benches which
were installed at the Bocce Court by members of the Men’s Club. This
year the league grew to nine teams and played a nine week season.
Members of the Men’s Club participated in the East Lyme Day by playing a
Bocce tournament with the East Lyme Bocce League at McCook Park. The BP
Men’s Club team won the tournament. The Club ran a very successful Pasta
Dinner fundraiser to complete the month of July.
In August the Men’s Club in cooperation with the BP Women’s Club
presented a free night for families to enjoy a magic show at the
Clubhouse. “Mr Magic” mesmerized over 180 Black Pointers both young and
old with his feats of magic. Pickleball was also introduced to Black
Point by the Men’s Club. Pickleball was introduced to Black Point when 2
Ambassadors from the USA Pickleball Association demonstrated the
techniques and rules of the game to a group of about 40 adults and
children. Rounding out August’s calendar Dr. Brendan Fox informed the
members and guests of the Men’s Club on medicine and medical care during
the Civil War.
The remainder of the season will be no less busy for the Club. On
September 15th, it will sponsor a (sold out) boat cruise on the sailboat
Argia out of Mystic. And on Friday, September 24, at 7:30 PM at the
clubhouse the Men’s Club will sponsor a dance.
In addition to its successful social calendar the Men’s Club gave over
$2000 in contributions and equipment to the community. Both the East
Lyme “Care and Share” and the Ambulance Association received $500 each.
The Cahill Education Fund was the recipient of $260 and the Caroline’s
Miracle Foundation received $200. In addition a park bench (mentioned
above) was purchased for the Bocce Court as well as two large banquet
tables for the BP Clubhouse.
The Men’s Club season will end with the annual Carol Sing in December.
All members are looking forward to another fun-filled and prosperous
season next year.
